We are open for comments, suggestions and new topics for discussion. Right now I am very interested in the state of our planet and what the future holds for our children. Are our future generations doomed to living lives dominated by unweilding UV rays and global warming that melts our icecaps and turns our rain forests into barren deserts?

I am very interested to know what people think about how things are or will be. Don't be shy, offer up comments and maybe we can institute change!

If you think about it, our world population is growing at such a rate that our planet will not be able to provide the resources needed to keep them all alive. As our generation rapes and pillages the land, seas and air; we degrade daily the potential for our siblings to live, period.

If we do not change our ways as a society our future generations are doomed to extinction. In Oregon we take recycling very seriously, well, I do anyway. I conserve energy any way I can, recycle all materials I possibly can, mulch all my organic material and try to buy only products that use recycled materials.

Our choice of business is a double edged sword; we provide print solutions which ultimately eat trees which is what we are trying to save. Hypocrits? well, maybe. But we can try to do our part. I run a paperless business and when printing only use recycled paper, send out electronic newsletters to my clients informing them of things they can do to move to a paperless workplace, statistics on recycling in our area and helpful links to other companies that are trying to be as "green" as possible.

So, what are you doing?

/rant on

Oregon is full of trees, period. Here is the problem with the trees where we live in Oregon. The over abundance of tree-hugger types is making it difficult for those of us that want to thin out scrubby pine trees on our property so thicker, healthier trees can prosper. There are many groups filled with these zealots preaching the trees word and how all trees have rights and how it is up to us to uphold those rights for them.

Bullshit.

I love trees, hell, I do everything I can to save them from over-forestation and abuse. But when people that have no clue about anything other than their cause and no concept about pride in ownership nor want to create park-like atmospheres rather than unruly forest, I get bent. I own property and I am very proud of it. I am certain that many of these bleeding-heart hippies that spend their lives preaching the word of the almighty green have no home besides the one that drives them from gas station to gas station, are meerly jealous of the things that they want but dont want to "work" to get.

We are being told that there are limitations as to what we can or cannot cut down on "our" property. And we are claiming no fair. While the state and city governments can rape the land clean for the sake of the almighty dollar, we are slayed by the double edged sword and told that cutting trees is bad for the environment and bad for the community.

Sigh.

If you are confused, I think you are starting to feel like we do. The city wants all home owners to improve their property but put not really. The city wants to create new sub-divisions and tracks of homes and pay developers big kickbacks for growing the city. I guess if you are not part of the good-ol-boys club, a multi-million dollar land developer or blowing the mayor cutting trees to improve your land is not allowed.

I apologize for my misguided and confusing comments, but then again, what are these blogs for anyway?

Woof. Alright, i know that there are dog lovers out there. Well, at least I think so. Here in our little green part of the planet that they like to call Oregon, there are plenty of dogs and plenty of dog lovers. We are very proud parents of our 6-month-old, great dane son and would love to hear from others that enjoy the members of extended family that slobbers, barks, chases frisbees and cats and warms our feet on those icy evenings.

Doggie just realized a new scent today, deer. Chasing the frisbee, he stopped in his tracks, sniffed intently then ruffled his fur. After staring into the woods and growling for a moment or two he snuffed and came running back to me with a boyish grin that almost sounded like "daddy, daddy, look what I found!". I smiled and crossed the yard wondering what his nose knows and didn't see anything. A dogs nose must be a wonderful and disgusting thing all at the same time; I am pretty sure that they can smell those piles left behind too! Yummy!

Got a doggie story? Post it!

Water anyone? Well…

Yikes.

Yellow water that looks more like lemonade than water is what we are having to deal with here. The land of beauty and green has stenchy, iron clad yellow colored well water, at least in this area anyway. I will need to check with the people that actually drilled this well because we were told when we bought this property that the well was 100 foot deep which is well past the nasty ground water and deep into the regional aquafer; according to what I know anyway.

Looks like a time for googleman!

Research is a blessing and from time to time a gold mine, but usually just something we take for granted. Imagine, 20 years ago we would have to actually pick up the phone and talk to people that would have to browse endlessly through un-sorted files and poorly titled paperwork. We would have to submit a request to checkout a book or two to read about water treatment methodology from 1966 and dig through mines full of outdated city and county records. Now? Google it! Well, (no pun intended) we can find information about this area from 500 different sources but which one is true. Hmm, seems like maybe too much information is just as bad as none or no access to it. Personally, I am a googlenut and use it for just about everything. I just realize that the information you find has to be taken with a grain of salt and sifted like old flour to find what you are looking for.

Back to water...

I think it might just be time to upgrade our soft water system and incorporate some of the newer technology into our system, but I think I will google that too. Heck, I might find a sale, better yet, an online coupon ;)
